Regional Trauma Councils
One of the objectives of the Kansas Trauma Plan is to develop a regional system of trauma care, in
coordination with adjacent systems, with the goal of reducing the mortality and morbidity of injured
patients within a defined region. Regional Trauma Councils (RTCs) are a way to address topics and issues
related to trauma care in a region. The structure and proposed composition of the various RTCs will foster
interagency coordination, ensure local input into the decision making process and maintain strong effective
working relationships. This structure allows local people to develop solutions to local problems.
An inclusive trauma system promotes regionalization of trauma care so that residents in all areas of
the state will receive the best possible care. Initial coordination and support of the RTCs will be
provided from KDHE. The RTCs will work in coordination with the Advisory Committee on Trauma (ACT) and KDHE
to address issues and develop policy based on information from the statewide trauma registry, the pre-hospital
data collection system and input from trauma personnel in the region. The leadership of the RTCs will be elected
from the membership of the regional council.
